CARE GUIDE -CERAMIC
For the vessels that hold both form and allegory
Handle with considered contact:
Stoneware is resilient by nature—fired to high temperatures until it vitrifies into durability—but like all crafted relics, it can chip if struck against hard surfaces. Avoid knocking your pieces against metal, stone, or other ceramics, especially around rims and edges.
Mind the surfaces they rest upon:
Place your ceramic pieces gently on tables or shelves. Textured bases or unglazed feet may mark delicate surfaces; felt pads or soft cloth can serve as quiet intermediaries.
Food safety & intended use:
Please check the details of each individual piece for food safety. Some works within the Alch Cera collection are purely ornamental and not intended for contact with food, nor suitable for dishwashers or microwaves.
These objects are crafted as sculptural vessels—keepers of symbolism rather than functional ware.
Avoid sudden, extreme temperature shifts.
Even high-fired stoneware can experience thermal shock. Do not move a piece directly from cold to hot environments (refrigerator, oven, or hot water, cold bench). Allow the piece to rest momentarily and adjust naturally.
Use with food and drink consciously.
For pieces that are food-safe, avoid prolonged contact with highly acidic substances on unglazed areas, as they can subtly alter the surface over time.
Clean with gentle intention.
Warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge are sufficient for daily care. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh chemicals, or metal scourers that may dull glazes or wear matte textures.
For porous or unglazed surfaces:
These areas may darken with use—a natural patina, a quiet record of the piece’s encounters. A paste of baking soda and water can be used to gently lift residues if needed.
Dishwasher & microwave guidance:
Only food-safe and fully glazed stoneware pieces may be suitable for dishwashers or microwaves. Handwashing is always recommended to preserve longevity. Ornamental pieces should never be placed in dishwashers or microwaves.
Storage and stacking:
If stacking bowls or plates, place a soft cloth or paper between them to protect rims and honour the individuality of each handcrafted form.
Repairs & restoration:
Ceramic repair is an old craft in itself. Should a piece ever chip or crack, you are welcome to reach out for guidance on restoration options—whether functional or poetically transformative.
